Herman Barretto, LCSW, ACSW

Mr. Herman J. Barretto, LCSW, ACSW, served the Fresno Vet Center as a readjustment counselor from May 1992, when he graduated with an MSW from CSU, Fresno, until June 30, 2022, when he retired. From February 2017 to his retirement, Herman served as the Director of the Fresno Vet Center, having previously served as the Acting Director and Clinical Coordinator at various periods of his employment with the Agency. From January to December of 1991, Herman completed his internship for his MSW degree at the Fresno Vet Center.

From 1998 to 2004, Herman assisted in the Trauma and Abuse Seminar offered by California State University, Fresno, to its MSW second year candidates in the CSUF School of Social Work. Herman then taught the course from the fall of 2005 to the spring of 2021.

Prior to pursuing his social work profession, Herman served in the pastoral ministry from 1981 to 1990, having attained a BA from St. John’s College and an M. Div. from St. John’s Theological Seminary, Camarillo, CA.

Although Herman is currently retired, he continues to remain active in the Mental Health profession as a consulter, resilience worker, and volunteer. Herman also assists his spouse in providing daycare for their two grandchildren while their parents pursue their retirement.

Herman has always felt a calling to care for those struggling with health issues and for those close to death.


Charity Tokash

Charity Tokash is the Education Development Coordinator at Valley Caregiver Resource Center, where she has spent over four years delivering caregiver education across nine counties. She brings a strong background in working with the disability community and is passionate about supporting and empowering family caregivers through accessible, relevant resources.
